BI certificate coursework
Overview
This University of Calgary Business Intelligence course project analysed Calgary crime data covering 2018–2024. The work focused on preparing the data and making trend and community comparisons easier to explore in Power BI.
Project type: Coursework (ICT 706). This was an academic project, not a paid client engagement.
Objective
Prepare a dimensional model and interactive report that lets a non-technical viewer explore crime categories, communities and time periods.
Role and process
Priscila cleaned and typed the source data, organized time, community and category dimensions, and built the report measures and navigation described below.
Methods and deliverables
- Built a star-schema model with time, community and category dimensions.
- Wrote DAX measures for year-over-year change, rolling 12-month averages, a crime heat index compared with a five-year average, and dynamic page titles.
- Added bookmark navigation and synced slicers to support exploration.
- Delivered an interactive Power BI dashboard for non-technical users.
Findings and limitations
The resume evidence documents the analysis and report functionality, but it does not include published findings or an independently verifiable operational impact. No dashboard screenshots or original PBIX file were present in the reviewed workspace, so no image or live report is presented here.
Evidence note: Described in the verified BI resume; the original dashboard file and screenshots were not present in the reviewed working directory.
